Introduction We seek to accommodate the needs of the elderly and those with disabilities. We routinely provide specially adapted housing in our developments. As such, we now have a stock of adapted properties, including housing for wheelchair users. We work closely with the Disabled Persons Housing Service to ensure that we are creating housing which meets the needs of those who consider themselves to have a disability. We meet the terms of the Disability Discrimination Act and, as such, all new properties comply with Scottish Government’s ‘Housing for Varying Needs’ standards. Altering Your House for Medical Reasons We may be able to provide help, where an alteration is needed, due to a medical condition. This includes installing handrails in bathrooms and replacing baths with showers. If you require this type of help, you should, in the first instance, contact an Occupational Therapist, from the Council’s Social Work Department. They will carry out an assessment and make their recommendations to us. Provided the alteration is feasible and the funds are available, this work may be undertaken without charge. If you think you require additional support, such as a community alarm, please contact your Housing Officer, for further information. You can also contact Social Work and/or a voluntary organisation to help you assess your housing requirements.
