Insurance

Responsibilities

Maintenance

There are two types of insurance which need to be arranged for your home – buildings insurance and contents insurance.

We work on the principle that we will arrange for buildings insurance. We would strongly advise you to arrange contents insurance.

The buildings insurance arranged by us covers the cost of major repair work, should there be any structural damage to your home.

The contents insurance, for which you are responsible, will cover the cost of replacing any of your belongings which are lost or damaged through flood, fire and theft.

Contents Insurance

While it is your responsibility to insure the contents of your home and you are entitled to pick the insurance company of your choice, we would recommend that you consider participating in the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations' Contents Insurance Scheme. This particular scheme is tailor-made for housing association tenants. The scheme offers favourable rates, although you may still wish to compare these with commercial insurance companies. The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations welcome enquiries about their scheme.

We recommend that you insure the contents of your house for a minimum of £10,000.

We know that many of our tenants have low incomes and insurance might be seen as an unnecessary expense. It is not. Consider the need and cost of replacing your furniture and belongings, in the event of a fire, flood or theft.
